Conceptual Cost Engineer

About the role

GlassPoint is seeking an experienced Conceptual Cost Engineer to own capital cost estimating for major industrial solar‑thermal projects from early development through to Final Investment Decision (FID). The role sits at the intersection of engineering, project development, supply chain, construction and commercial decision‑making, translating evolving technical concepts into credible CAPEX estimates.

Key responsibilities

• Own project capital cost estimates from initial opportunity assessment through Class 5/4 estimates to the FID cost baseline.
• Develop parametric, factored, quantity‑based and benchmark estimates appropriate to each project’s maturity.
• Build complete CAPEX estimates covering equipment, materials, fabrication, construction, installation, logistics, engineering, project services, commissioning and indirect costs.
• Establish clear Basis of Estimate documentation covering methodology, assumptions, exclusions, allowances, escalation, contingency, uncertainty and risk.
• Support techno‑economic evaluation of alternative concepts and identify opportunities for CAPEX optimisation.

Required profile

• Analytically rigorous, technically curious and commercially aware with 7‑12+ years of capital project estimating experience.
• Proven ability to develop credible early‑stage CAPEX estimates when detailed information is incomplete.
• Experience with Class 4 and Class 5 estimating methodologies and recognised AACE practices.
• Strong cross‑functional collaboration skills and a drive to improve estimating discipline through data, tools and technology.
