Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon (Transplant)

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Consultant Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon with expertise in cardiac transplantation to join a leading tertiary pediatric cardiac centre in Abu Dhabi. The role involves managing complex congenital heart disease, performing pediatric heart transplants and advanced cardiac procedures for infants, children and adolescents.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complex pediatric cardiac surgeries including congenital heart defect repairs, redo surgeries, and high‑risk neonatal procedures.
• Lead and participate in the pediatric heart transplantation program, covering donor evaluation, recipient selection, surgical transplantation, and post‑operative management.
• Provide pre‑operative and post‑operative surgical care for pediatric cardiac patients.
• Manage critically ill patients in collaboration with ICU, cardiology, anesthesia and perfusion teams.
• Participate in multidisciplinary cardiac conferences and surgical planning meetings.
• Ensure high standards of surgical safety, infection control and peri‑operative care.
• Supervise and mentor junior surgeons, fellows and surgical trainees.
• Contribute to clinical research, audits, publications and academic activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with DOH Abu Dhabi regulations and hospital protocols.
• Support quality‑improvement initiatives and cardiac programme development.

Required profile

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree recognised by DOH Abu Dhabi.
• Board certification/fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery with subspecialty training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
• Additional advanced training or experience in pediatric heart transplantation.
• Valid DOH Consultant licence or eligibility letter in Cardiac Surgery.
• Minimum 7–10 years of post‑fellowship experience in pediatric cardiac surgery.
