Consultant Physician – Tropical and Infectious Diseases

About the role

The Consultant Physician – Tropical and Infectious Diseases will lead the delivery of evidence‑based clinical care for patients with tropical and infectious conditions at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. The role involves supervising junior medical staff, ensuring high‑quality patient outcomes, and contributing to departmental performance management.

Key responsibilities

• Support and implement hospital, departmental and divisional policies and procedures.
• Participate in performance management processes, including peer review and productivity assessments.
• Assist the Division Chief with scheduling, medical coverage, recruitment and administrative duties.
• Diagnose, manage and treat patients according to best‑practice standards in tropical and infectious diseases.
• Supervise junior medical staff, oversee their clinical activities and ensure appropriate patient care.
• Lead ward rounds, reassess in‑patients and out‑patients, and document clinical information promptly.
• Review investigation results, modify treatment plans as needed, and coordinate multidisciplinary care.
• Obtain informed consent and prepare patients for procedures, and liaise with other specialties for comprehensive care.

Required profile

• Demonstrated clinical excellence in tropical and infectious disease medicine.
• Experience in leading and training junior medical staff.
• Ability to diagnose, manage and treat complex infectious cases following established standards.
• Commitment to adhering to hospital policies, resource utilization and multidisciplinary collaboration.
