Developer Experience Engineer

About the role

The Institute of Foundation Models at MBZUAI is looking for a Developer Experience Engineer to own the end‑to‑end integration and validation of frontier foundation models. You will act as the first customer, testing deployment paths, ensuring seamless interaction with popular AI development frameworks, and removing technical bottlenecks for external developers.

Key responsibilities

• Systematically test and validate every deployment path (Hugging Face, vLLM, TensorRT‑LLM, Ollama) across diverse environments to guarantee zero‑friction onboarding.
• Audit, optimize, and document the Zero‑to‑Hero onboarding experience so an external engineer can run inference or fine‑tuning within 15 minutes.
• Build and maintain robust integrations with open‑source ecosystems, multi‑agent frameworks, and model‑serving platforms, delivering production‑grade quickstarts and reference implementations.
• Serve as the technical bridge between research scientists, HPC teams, and community managers, translating bugs and friction points into actionable engineering requirements.
• Track validation pipelines, regression logs, and release issues, providing concise status updates to leadership and driving resolution of cross‑team blockers.

Required profile

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, applied machine learning, MLOps, or technical project management in a deep‑tech environment.
• Strong competency in terminal environments, Python programming, and debugging deployment scripts.
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills with the ability to map, execute, and track complex testing scenarios.
• Clear communicator capable of translating technical bugs into actionable summaries for diverse stakeholders.
