Engine Performance Methods Engineer I

About the role

The Engine Performance Methods Engineer I will develop, model, analyse and optimise the thermodynamic and aerodynamic performance of new micro‑turbojet and turbofan engines. You will work across concept, design, testing and service support within EDGE's fast‑moving air‑power division.

Key responsibilities

• Develop preliminary engine cycle models and aerothermal methods for off‑design performance estimation.
• Maintain steady‑state and transient engine cycle models and generate performance decks.
• Translate airframe/engine requirements into performance criteria, design constraints and turbomachinery selection.
• Optimise cycles to balance thrust, specific fuel consumption and thermal limits for mission‑specific points.
• Conduct trade‑off studies, support test preparation, monitor test execution and analyse test data against models.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc & MSc in mechanical, aerospace or thermal power engineering, or PhD with relevant experience.
• 4+ years (or PhD +3 years) experience in gas‑turbine engine performance.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.

Required skills

• Engine performance modelling tools (Gasturb, NPSS, TTECTrA).
• Scripting languages: MATLAB/Simulink or Python.
• CFD tools for turbomachinery (ANSYS Fluent, CFX, Numeca).
• Knowledge of 1D meanline and 2D streamline curvature methods (plus).
