Estimator / Designer - Commercial Office Furniture

About the role

A commercial office furniture trading company in the UAE is looking for an Estimator / Designer. The role is split roughly 80% estimation, costing, procurement and quotation preparation, and 20% furniture design, space planning and technical drawings. It reports directly to the Operations Manager and works with the Sales and Project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, commercial quotations and Bills of Quantities (BOQs); review enquiries, tenders, drawings and specifications; revise estimates for scope changes.
• Negotiate prices, payment terms and delivery schedules with suppliers, compare quotations, place purchase orders and follow up on deliveries.
• Prepare 2D furniture layouts and technical drawings in AutoCAD, and 3D models and office layouts in Google SketchUp.
• Coordinate with Sales, Operations and Project teams, maintain records of quotations, BOQs, purchase orders and drawings, and update estimates when project scope changes.

Required profile

• At least 4-5 years of experience in furniture estimation, costing, procurement or commercial office furniture; UAE furniture trading experience preferred.
• Practical experience with BOQs, cost estimates, quotations and supplier negotiations; experience with workstations, desks, meeting tables and storage systems is an advantage.
• Bachelor's degree.

Required skills

• MS Excel for costing, BOQs and quotations.
• AutoCAD for 2D layouts and technical drawings.
• Google SketchUp for 3D modelling.
• Ability to read architectural drawings, floor plans and tender documents.
• Knowledge of furniture materials, finishes, hardware and supplier pricing; familiarity with UAE market pricing is an advantage.
