Executive Legal Counsel – Legal Business Development

About the role

Acwa China is seeking an Executive Legal Counsel to provide expert legal advice and support for complex power generation and desalination projects across multiple countries. The role will involve drafting agreements, managing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Independently manage legal aspects of assigned projects, providing guidance on contracts, disputes, and policy matters.
• Support M&A activities for brown‑field projects, coordinating with external counsel.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks to protect project interests.
• Review, update, and maintain templates for legal agreements and ensure their accuracy.
• Lead negotiations with EPC contractors, government bodies, and other key stakeholders.
• Assist in shortlisting and recommending external legal partners.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws degree.
• 5–8 years of experience in project law or a legal function, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of project finance, regulatory and policy matters in the power and water sectors.
• Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice and negotiate autonomously.
