Family Medicine Specialist

About the role

The Family Medicine Specialist provides comprehensive primary care within a hospital setting, working under the supervision of a Consultant Physician. The role involves diagnosing, treating and managing patients across inpatient and outpatient services while supporting departmental initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat patients according to best practice standards.
• Lead ward rounds, reassessing in‑patients and out‑patients regularly.
• Supervise junior medical staff and share responsibility for their patient care.
• Document all clinical information accurately and timely.
• Review investigation results and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Prepare patients for procedures, obtain informed consent and ensure safe hand‑overs.
• Accept referrals from emergency, primary care and other specialties.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours on‑call rotation covering evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
• Liaise with other specialties and support services to coordinate holistic patient care.
• Contribute to quality improvement, audit activities and clinical research.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with appropriate licensing for family medicine.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a Consultant Physician.
• Commitment to departmental policies, performance management and continuous improvement.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
