General Manager – Joint Venture in Iraq Oil & Gas

About the role

Wood is looking for a dynamic General Manager to lead its Iraq joint‑venture, Wood Al Majal, from a Dubai base. The role involves overseeing the venture’s business plan, budget, and project delivery while spending roughly half the time on site in Iraq.

Key responsibilities

• Own execution of the Business Plan, budget and P&L targets for the joint‑venture.
• Recruit and manage in‑country Function Leads and Delivery Leads.
• Organise and chair Monthly Managing Committee and Bi‑annual General Assembly meetings, driving actions and compliance.
• Ensure all legal, statutory and joint‑venture agreement requirements are met in Iraq.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Iraqi government agencies, BOC, SGC, Basra Governor, BCRO, MOO, MOI, etc.
• Lead business development, create key opportunity strategies and grow fabrication, training and project execution capabilities.
• Coordinate contract execution using Wood’s engineering and consultancy services and Al Majal’s workshops, logistics and equipment supply.
• Lead proposal development, ensuring competitive technical and commercial models.
• Maintain HSSE, quality, ethics and compliance standards across all projects.

Required profile

• Senior executive with extensive experience in oil & gas maintenance, completions, commissioning or brownfield projects.
• Proven track record managing P&L, budgets and large‑scale joint‑venture operations.
• Willingness to travel regularly, spending at least 50% of time in Iraq.
• Strong stakeholder management skills with government and industry bodies.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive governance processes.
