Hard Coat Specialist

About the role

The Hard Coat Specialist is responsible for the scratch‑resistant coating stage of ophthalmic lens production at Tokai's Middle East and Africa laboratory. You will operate and maintain dip/spin‑coating equipment and curing ovens, ensuring every lens meets strict quality standards before shipment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor hard‑coat dip/spin‑coating equipment and curing ovens.
• Prepare, mix and maintain hard‑coat solutions and resins according to specifications.
• Perform quality control checks on coated lenses, including adhesion, abrasion resistance, thickness and visual defects.
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve coating defects and process deviations.
• Calibrate equipment and carry out routine preventive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate production, quality and maintenance records while following HSE procedures.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Optics or related field, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Prior experience in hard‑coat, lens surfacing or ophthalmic lens manufacturing is strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of coating chemistry, curing processes and quality testing methods.
• Meticulous, quality‑first mindset with excellent attention to detail.
• Fluent English and willingness to work in a cleanroom/production lab environment.
