Head of Physical Education - Secondary

About the role

The Cambridge High School Abu Dhabi, a GEMS Education school, is seeking an experienced Head of Physical Education (Secondary) to lead and develop its PE department. The post holder leads the day-to-day delivery of the PE curriculum across the secondary phase, working closely with the Director of Subject and the Senior Leadership Team to raise standards in teaching, learning, assessment and student outcomes, and to support extracurricular sports.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Secondary PE department to achieve outstanding educational outcomes.
• Ensure the PE curriculum is implemented effectively across Key Stages.
• Monitor, evaluate and improve teaching and learning practices, and analyse assessment data to inform interventions and curriculum planning.
• Support, coach and mentor PE teachers; drive improvements in student attainment, progress, participation and wellbeing.
• Organise and oversee extracurricular sports, competitions, fixtures and school sporting events.
• Promote a culture of physical fitness, healthy lifestyles and sportsmanship.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, risk assessment and ADEK requirements.
• Contribute to whole-school development planning and build relationships with students, parents, staff and external sporting organisations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, MOFA attested with equivalency.
• Teaching license and eligible certification requirements as per ADEK.
• IELTS or English medium of instruction letter from university.
• Swimming qualification (preferably Hamilton-trained).
• Minimum 1-2 years of leadership experience managing a PE department or subject area.
• Minimum 2 years of teaching experience.
