About the role
An experienced Java Architect is sought to design and deliver scalable, secure and high-performance enterprise applications in the airlines, airports and travel technology domain. The role provides technical leadership, defines application architecture, guides development teams and drives best practices across Java, cloud, microservices and DevOps.
Key responsibilities
- Design enterprise application architecture using Java, Spring Boot and microservices, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Lead architecture, design reviews and technical decision-making, owning the implications for cost, schedule, complexity, technical debt and performance
- Manage the architecture roadmap and runways, and drive architectural governance, technical debt reduction and platform modernisation
- Conduct code reviews, drive cloud-native development, CI/CD and DevOps best practices, and work with quality engineering on non-functional requirements
- Prepare architecture documents, technical designs and implementation plans, and mentor development teams
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams on logical and physical infrastructure aligned with technology standards
- Monitor industry trends and evaluate relevant technologies and tools
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 12+ years of Java development experience, including 5+ years in an architect role
- Experience in a large matrix organisation with global teams
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills

- REST APIs, Kafka/RabbitMQ, Solace and distributed systems
- CI/CD tools, DevOps, TDD, Splunk, AppDynamics
- DDD, microservices, event-driven and cloud-native architectures, CQRS, serverless and API-first design
- Cloud well-architected frameworks, observability, automation, cybersecurity and zero trust network access
