Lead AI Engineer

About the role

Deeplight AI, an AI and data consultancy focused on enterprise AI in the UAE, is looking for a Lead AI Engineer to act as technical authority, client principal and line manager for its enterprise engagements. The role combines quantitative science, agentic AI, MLOps and consulting, and includes direct line management of a squad of 5-10 AI engineers, data scientists and MLOps specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a squad of AI engineers and data scientists: 1-on-1s, performance reviews, career growth and pair programming.
• Design, build and deploy LLM agents, agentic workflows, RAG pipelines and ML models on AWS or Azure.
• Advise client C-suite and engineering leads, turning business challenges into technical roadmaps.
• Align business and IT agendas and defend technical choices and AI ethics before architecture review boards and risk committees.
• Enforce security and MLOps: zero-trust AI security, prompt injection defenses, PII masking and CI/CD pipelines compliant with UAE PDPL and Central Bank rules.

Required profile

• 3+ years of formal line management experience with engineers and data scientists.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, AI or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years in software engineering, machine learning and AI platform development, including leading teams in top consultancies.
• Proven track record of moving AI/ML systems from experiments to secure, high-concurrency production cloud environments.
• High emotional intelligence and strong communication skills; sector experience in finance, banking or capital markets is an edge.

Required skills

• Advanced Python and hands-on experience with autonomous AI agents and multi-agent workflows.
• Preferred: LoRA, QLoRA, quantization, vLLM, Ollama, TGI and self-hosted LLMs.
• Preferred: experience with UAE or GCC procurement, client dynamics and regulations.
