Lead Applied Scientist

About the role

Inception, a G42 company, is looking for a Lead Applied Scientist in Abu Dhabi to lead advanced AI research and guide teams in developing deep-learning and generative AI solutions. The role calls for a seasoned expert who can turn cutting-edge research into scalable, high-impact applications, architect next-generation AI systems and mentor a team of scientists and engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the applied AI research roadmap, identifying emerging technologies and methodologies.
• Architect and oversee the development of generative and deep-learning models integrating vision, language, audio and sensor data.
• Lead, mentor and inspire a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
• Partner with product, engineering and business teams to turn research into deployable AI systems and enterprise products.
• Ensure model scalability, reliability and efficiency through experimentation, optimization and operational excellence.
• Represent Inception in external forums, research partnerships and conferences, and collaborate with universities and industry partners.
• Evaluate project success through innovation impact, deployment efficiency, IP generation and customer satisfaction.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering or an AI-related discipline, specializing in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, NLP or Multimodal AI.
• At least 10-12 years of experience in AI research and product development, including at least 3 years leading R&D teams or major AI projects.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing and deploying large-scale AI models and systems.
• Proven research record, such as publications, patents or industry innovation initiatives.
• Ideally: deep understanding of foundation models, generative architectures and reasoning systems; strong strategic thinking, project management and leadership skills; excellent communication and stakeholder management; experience in AI commercialization from concept to production deployment.
