Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer – Offshore Island Project

About the role

The Lead Instrumentation & Control Engineer will head all instrumentation, control, automation and safety system engineering activities for an offshore island project, ensuring compliance with ADNOC standards and international codes throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead instrumentation and control engineering activities for offshore platforms, process facilities, pipelines, wellhead towers and utility systems.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of instrumentation, control systems and telecom engineers/designers, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
• Develop and review instrument index, data sheets, specifications, hook‑up drawings, loop diagrams, cable schedules and material take‑offs.
• Design and oversee Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Fire & Gas, SCADA and PLC systems, including control philosophies and functional design specifications.
• Ensure safety instrumented systems comply with IEC 61508/61511, participate in HAZOP, SIL and LOPA studies, and support implementation of safety instrumented functions.
• Coordinate telecom integration for PA/GA, CCTV, access control, fiber optics and marine communication systems.
• Handle procurement, vendor technical evaluations, and ensure compliance with ADNOC standards.
• Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, FAT/SAT, commissioning and start‑up phases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; Master’s in Control Systems, Automation or Instrumentation preferred.
• Professional Engineering certification advantageous.
• 18–20 years of instrumentation and control experience in oil & gas, with at least 8–10 years in a lead role.
• Extensive offshore experience on platforms, wellhead towers, subsea interfaces and central processing facilities.

Required skills

• Instrumentation engineering (index, data sheets, specifications, loop diagrams, MTOs).
• Control system design – DCS, ESD, Fire & Gas, SCADA, PLC, ICSS.
• Safety Instrumented Systems – IEC 61508/61511, HAZOP, SIL, LOPA.
• Telecom integration – PA/GA, CCTV, access control, fiber optics, marine communications.
• Vendor management – technical bid evaluation, compliance reviews.
• Commissioning support – FAT, SAT, integrated system testing.
