Mechanical Engineering Internship – Tunnel Boring Machines

About the role

The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support the design, fabrication, testing and deployment of tunnel boring machine (TBM) components and related equipment. This is a hands‑on internship where you will own defined engineering projects and work closely with experienced engineers and technicians on site.

Key responsibilities

• Design and model TBM components, support equipment, and material‑handling systems using 3D CAD.
• Create manufacturing drawings, bills of materials and perform basic engineering calculations.
• Assist with mechanism design, hydraulic systems, tooling, test fixtures and fabricated structures.
• Support fabrication, assembly, inspection, testing and commissioning of mechanical hardware on site.
• Participate in design reviews, failure investigations and propose design improvements.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Hands‑on experience with fabrication, machining, assembly, robotics or testing through university projects or competitions.
• Ability to work onsite in Dubai for the internship period.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SolidWorks or another parametric 3D CAD platform.
• Knowledge of mechanics, materials, machine elements and manufacturing processes.
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings and applying basic GD&T.
• Familiarity with hand calculations, FEA, design for manufacturing and tolerance analysis.
• Practical use of machine tools, welding equipment, 3D printers or other prototyping methods.
