Mechanical Technician

About the role

Mandarin Oriental Jumeira in Dubai is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join its Engineering team. The role focuses on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of hotel mechanical systems, especially HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems, including heat pumps, AHUs, FCUs, split units, package units and cold rooms.
• Perform motor, blower and fan bearing replacements, pump servicing, alignment and basic performance checks.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in HVAC systems and carry out corrective actions.
• Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting of control circuits, contactors, relays, sensors and thermostats.
• Handle refrigerant duties such as leak detection, pressure checks and charging.
• Respond promptly to guest room and public area HVAC complaints.
• Coordinate with the engineering team during shutdowns, refurbishments and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of hands‑on experience in a luxury hotel engineering department, specifically with HVAC and refrigeration.
• Physically fit and capable of handling mechanical tools and equipment.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and emergency call‑outs.

Required skills

• Strong practical knowledge of HVAC systems and refrigeration cycles.
• Experience with motor, blower and fan bearing replacement and pump servicing.
• Basic electrical troubleshooting skills for HVAC control circuits.
• Familiarity with refrigerant handling, leak detection and charging.
• Technical diploma or vocational certification in Mechanical, HVAC or Refrigeration Engineering (preferred).
• Experience with BMS monitoring and controls (preferred).
