Patient Care Assistant - NICU/PED

About the role

University Hospital Sharjah is looking for a Patient Care Assistant for its NICU/PED unit. The role supports the nursing team in caring for a group of patients by performing a variety of non-licensed patient care activities, ensuring the safety, personal needs and comfort of patients are met.

Key responsibilities

• Support registered nurses with basic duties in line with facility, MOH, JCI and FDON policies, procedures and standards.
• Maintain a safe, clean environment using approved infection control practices and act as a chaperone for patients when required.
• Turn, move or transport patients on a stretcher or wheelchair, tidy rooms and report unsafe situations to the team leader.
• Deliver and return meal trays, note fluids taken and inform the assigned RN; help patients who cannot feed themselves and make beds.
• Weigh ambulatory patients, clean up after procedures and treat used instruments according to standard precautions.
• Check and stock supply rooms as designated by the team leader and ensure equipment and instruments are maintained, reporting faults to the Bio-Medical department and nurse in charge.
• Prepare and stock clinical areas, accompany patients to X-ray, ECG and CT scan, and accompany physicians during examinations.
• Take part in quality improvement, education and unit meetings, and initiate emergency and fire safety measures.
• Report all incidents through the agreed channels, complete incident reports and take immediate action where needed.

Required profile

• 2 years of nursing, assistant or healthcare-related experience.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Advantages: previous UAE experience and experience in an internationally accredited hospital (JCI).
