Principal Engineer – Power Electronics

About the role

EDGE’s Advanced Concepts division is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design and integration of high‑performance power electronics for autonomous aerospace and defense systems. The role combines strategic roadmap development with hands‑on hardware prototyping to drive innovative, energy‑efficient solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute technical roadmaps for power electronics and hardware design.
• Lead the design, simulation, and optimization of DC‑DC converters, inverters, and motor drives.
• Oversee PCB development using Altium Designer, ensuring signal integrity, thermal performance, and manufacturability.
• Utilize MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, and LTspice for system modeling and analysis.
• Manage prototyping, validation, and rapid iteration of power systems.
• Integrate power electronics with motor systems, sensors, and control algorithms.
• Conduct hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) simulations, EMC, and field testing.
• Develop advanced control algorithms such as Field‑Oriented Control, Direct Torque Control, and trapezoidal control.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics; PhD or advanced certifications are a plus.
• 15+ years of experience in power electronics design, system integration, and validation.
• Proven track record with high‑efficiency converters, inverters, and motor‑drive systems for complex applications.
