Principal Piping Engineer

About the role

The Principal Piping Engineer leads complex piping design activities across conceptual, FEED and detailed design phases for oil and gas projects. Working independently, they provide technical guidance, solve challenging problems and ensure compliance with standards and company procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform conceptual, FEED and detailed design analysis, preparing calculations, reports and procedures in line with project scope, codes and McDermott standards.
• Lead medium to large engineering teams, manage discipline execution, schedule, budget and interface with clients, certifying authorities and other stakeholders.
• Review and approve design philosophies, specifications, pipe supports, MTOs and material requisitions, and support 3D model reviews at 30%, 60% and 90% progress.
• Monitor KPI results, drive corrective actions, and represent the piping discipline during internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 15‑20 years of piping engineering experience in oil & gas.
• Proven experience as Lead Piping Engineer on FEED and EPC projects, including multi‑office project execution.
• Strong knowledge of international codes and standards such as ANSI, ASME, API, BS and NFPA.
• Registered Professional Engineer or membership in a professional engineering society is preferred.

Required skills

• SP3D, E3D and Navisworks software proficiency.
• Pipe stress analysis and support design.
• Material engineering, MTO preparation and procurement coordination.
• Design and modelling of all piping sub‑disciplines.
