Project Lead Engineer - Steelworks (BHS Platforms & Walkways)

About the role

Vanderlande is looking for a Project Lead Engineer for steelworks on baggage handling system (BHS) platforms and walkways in Dubai. The role leads and coordinates engineering for the design, optimization, fabrication, installation and commissioning of steel structures supporting BHS platforms, walkways, access structures and related components, acting as the technical focal point between customers, project management, site teams, subcontractors, suppliers and internal engineering disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead engineering and technical delivery of steelworks packages, from detailed design through fabrication, installation, commissioning and handover, ensuring designs meet operational, safety, maintenance and accessibility requirements.
• Integrate steelworks with baggage handling equipment, electrical systems, controls, architecture and civil interfaces, and support constructability reviews.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, local regulations, airport standards and international design codes.
• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, review and approve deliverables, calculations, drawings and models, and mentor engineers and designers.
• Develop engineering execution plans and schedules, coordinate with project managers, site managers, design teams, fabricators and subcontractors, and monitor progress and technical risks.
• Prepare technical specifications, design reports, calculations, procedures and installation documentation, and support method statements, ITPs, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Monitor engineering budgets and resource utilization, support cost control, and conduct design risk assessments and HSE initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of total engineering experience; minimum 5 years in steel structures, industrial systems, airport infrastructure or comparable large-scale projects.
• Demonstrated experience leading engineering activities for complex steelworks projects.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and willingness to travel up to 50%.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of structural design principles, steel fabrication and installation methods, and knowledge of structural design codes and standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Preferred: PE or Chartered Engineer certification, PMP or PRINCE2, experience with STAAD, SAP2000, RFEM, Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, BIM workflows and airport baggage handling systems.
