Purchasing Officer

About the role

S.K.M Air Conditioning, an HVAC manufacturer active since 1974 across the Middle East and beyond, is looking for a Purchasing Officer in Sharjah, UAE. The role works with the team to control the supply of an assigned assortment of materials, services and spare parts, optimising existing methods while anticipating the needs of other departments. It also manages the direct and indirect material procurement teams, covering material planning, supply risks and shortages, supplier evaluation and savings tracking.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, supervise and develop buyers within the procurement team to meet efficiency and KPI targets, and encourage new skills and knowledge.
• Develop and implement optimal purchasing processes, procedures and systems, supported by written policies, training and internal controls.
• Develop sourcing plans and strategies for products and services needed to support company operations.
• Supervise the whole procurement operation, set priorities, work schedules and assignments, and ensure accurate completion of procurement requests with proper documentation.
• Maintain close relationships with vendors, suppliers and contractors, keeping them informed of market conditions, pricing and availability, and resolve delivery problems such as shortages, damages and invoicing discrepancies.
• Prepare the annual budget plan, monitor its implementation and evaluate the procurement team's performance quarterly.
• Analyse data, make improvement recommendations and work with costing, finance, accounting, business development and legal departments.
• Work with the internal MRP process for projects from start to finish, and inform the HOD and costing department of market and pricing changes.
• Initiate e-procurement relationships and continuous improvement, and maintain metrics on department and supplier performance.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Procurement or a related field from an accredited university.
• Knowledge of electrical or mechanical engineering.
• Experience in split and central air conditioning control systems, and in HVAC systems, refrigeration fittings and electrical parts.
• Experience in a manufacturing company is an advantage.

Required skills

• Knowledge of planning, purchasing and logistics policies and practices.
• Ability to balance cost-saving opportunities with risk mitigation.
