Regular or Visiting Faculty – Mechanical Engineering (2027)

About the role

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for a regular or visiting faculty position starting in the Fall semester of 2027. Candidates may be considered at the assistant, associate, or full professor level for a permanent appointment, or for a one‑year renewable contract focused on teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanical engineering and related multidisciplinary programs.
• Develop and maintain a high‑quality research program (regular faculty) with external and internal funding.
• Supervise student projects, theses, and laboratory activities.
• Participate in departmental service, curriculum development, and accreditation activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated teaching experience and a strong teaching portfolio.
• Evidence of research excellence and the ability to secure funding (for regular faculty).
• Experience with the American model of higher education is highly desirable.

Required skills

• Expertise in one of the mechanical engineering research areas: thermo‑fluids design, materials and manufacturing, dynamics and control.
