Resident Engineer - Electrical Overhead Lines

About the role

WSP in the Middle East is hiring a Resident Engineer for electrical overhead transmission line projects in Abu Dhabi. The role leads and manages all aspects of overhead line projects from initiation to closeout, keeping them within project objectives, schedules and budgets, while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders on project plans.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage overhead transmission line projects from start to finish, developing project plans covering scope, resources and risk.
• Review engineering designs, drawings and specifications for compliance with client requirements, industry standards and regulations.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers and vendors for materials, equipment and services.
• Supervise construction activities such as tower erection, conductor stringing and installation of hardware and accessories.
• Conduct site inspections, HSE audits, quality assurance checks, progress reviews, scope verifications, witnessing acceptance tests and commissioning, and verify as-built documents.
• Certify materials and work measurements and complete project closeout.
• Manage project documentation including contracts, permits and NOCs, drawings and reports.
• Provide technical guidance to the project team, subcontractors and clients, and support the Principal Resident Engineer or Project Manager.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permitting and safety protocols, and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field; master's degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• At least 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, focused on overhead line projects.
• Extensive knowledge of transmission line design, construction and maintenance, including tower configurations, conductor types and insulation methods.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours.

Required skills

• Proficiency in engineering software such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and AutoCAD.
