Secondary Biology Teacher

About the role

GEMS Education is hiring a full-time Secondary Biology Teacher in Dubai. The teacher delivers the required curriculum with accurate, up-to-date knowledge of the subject, plans and delivers quality lessons and adapts teaching to the needs of each student.

Key responsibilities

• Create and use appropriate materials and a classroom environment that caters for different learning styles, and show written evidence of planning and preparation on request.
• Maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources and assessment plans, and follow GEMS policies, procedures and codes of conduct.
• Teach students according to their individual needs, including late-entering students, ESL learners, those with low academic ability and gifted and talented students.
• Set and mark work, assess, record and report on students' academic progress and attainment, and use assessment to meet individual needs.
• Use media and technology in the classroom, and promote student well-being and guidance on educational matters.
• Communicate with external parties such as Ministry of Education officials, and work with colleagues on teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
• Participate in, and lead where appropriate, co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes, and help plan school events such as inter-house competitions, concerts and school plays.
• Monitor and supervise student behaviour, encourage self-discipline, model cultural awareness and promote a love of learning.
• Meet parents regularly about student progress while respecting confidentiality, attend staff meetings and committees, and take part in appraisals, performance management and continuing professional development.

Required profile

• Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biology.
• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
