Senior Design Team Lead - Electrical

About the role

HDR is hiring a Senior Design Team Lead (Electrical) in Dubai. The role provides strategic leadership, technical expertise and operational oversight for the electrical design team, leading the development and delivery of complex electrical systems across multidisciplinary projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage electrical design teams across multiple projects, giving technical direction, mentoring and performance oversight.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, architects, digital delivery teams and other discipline leaders.
• Direct the planning, execution and delivery of electrical design packages in line with scope, schedule, budget and quality objectives.
• Oversee power distribution, lighting, grounding, low-voltage systems, communications and life safety systems.
• Review and approve calculations, reports, specifications, drawings and construction documentation for accuracy and code compliance.
• Resolve technical conflicts between electrical, mechanical, structural, architectural and specialty systems.
• Establish design standards, workflows and best practices, and guide BIM and digital delivery integration.
• Support project pursuits through proposals, client presentations and scope definition, and collaborate with clients, contractors and AHJs.
• Monitor project performance and team workloads, and lead construction administration, submittal reviews, RFI responses, site visits and commissioning support.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, designers and technicians.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive electrical design experience, including leadership and project delivery; the text also lists a lower bar of 5 years of related industry experience.
• Proven experience leading electrical design for complex building, industrial, transportation, water, healthcare, mission-critical or infrastructure projects.
• Preferred: PE license or ability to obtain it, experience leading large, geographically diverse teams, and familiarity with sustainable design and decarbonization.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with electrical design software and BIM platforms.
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards and regulations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project collaboration platforms.
• Preferred: advanced BIM, digital delivery, model coordination, design automation, smart buildings, digital twins and electrical system analytics.
