Senior Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) – Dredger

About the role

The Senior Electrical Technical Officer (ETO) will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all electrical, electronic and automation systems on board a dredger. This role ensures the reliability of critical dredging equipment and supports safe, efficient offshore operations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of all onboard electrical, electronic and automation systems.
• Ensure continuous availability of cutter heads, dredge pumps, winches and propulsion control systems.
• Manage high‑voltage systems, PLCs, SCADA and power distribution networks in line with safety and class requirements.
• Supervise junior electrical staff and implement Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS).
• Perform advanced fault diagnosis and rectification of complex electrical and control systems to minimise downtime.
• Coordinate with the Chief Engineer and Master to meet project timelines and operational targets.
• Maintain compliance with international maritime regulations, company policies and HSE standards.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, spares inventory and system performance logs.
• Support dry‑dock planning, inspection, upgrades and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Handle variable frequency drives (VFDs), automation systems and dredging‑specific instrumentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics.
• STCW certification and ETO licence.
• 5‑10 years of experience on dredgers, preferably cutter suction or trailing suction hopper types.
