Senior Infection Preventionist Nurse – Infection Control

About the role

The Senior Infection Preventionist Nurse will work closely with clinical staff, departmental leaders and administration to minimise the risk of healthcare‑associated infections across the facility. This senior position provides expert consultation, leads evidence‑based strategies and ensures compliance with local health authority requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide infection control consultation and expert advice to medical, nursing, administrative and support services.
• Collaborate with all departments to develop, review and implement infection‑control policies.
• Advise occupational health, laboratory staff and risk managers on blood‑borne pathogen exposures and other infection‑prevention issues.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams in evidence‑based infection‑prevention initiatives that improve patient outcomes.
• Communicate with the Department of Health on reportable diseases, endemic and epidemic situations.
• Monitor antimicrobial prophylaxis for surgical site infections and report surveillance data on a monthly basis.
• Develop and deliver disaster‑plan education, biological‑hazard response training and staff role definitions.
• Prepare policies and procedures that promote consistent adherence to evidence‑based practices during pandemics or resource‑limited situations.
• Coordinate timely reporting of notifiable diseases and liaise with internal and external healthcare providers.
• Participate in quality‑improvement projects and conduct patient and environmental risk assessments.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in infection prevention and control.
• Advanced knowledge of microbiological, epidemiological principles and isolation precautions.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage disaster‑preparedness programs.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with health authorities and internal stakeholders.
