Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist – Cord Blood Banking

About the role

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist will oversee the safe handling, processing, documentation, storage, and manufacturing of cord blood products at Abu Dhabi Biobank. The role ensures high‑quality laboratory operations, donor and product safety, and supports continuous improvement initiatives within a cutting‑edge biobanking environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, inspect, and document incoming cord blood and maternal blood samples, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Process cord blood units using volume reduction, cryopreservation preparation, controlled‑rate freezing, and long‑term storage techniques.
• Coordinate shipping, transport, and documentation with cord blood collection centers.
• Perform routine equipment calibration, maintenance, temperature monitoring, and report any deviations.
• Support training, supervision, and competency assessment of laboratory personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (or 10 years experience without a degree).
• Graduate of an accredited MLT program with DOH licensure or eligibility (Hematology, Blood Transfusion, or Immunology).
• Minimum 7 years of experience in cord blood banking, cellular therapy processing, and cryopreservation.
• Fluency in English and Arabic with strong communication skills.
• Commitment to complete at least 10 hours of continuing education annually.

Required skills

• Cord blood processing and cryopreservation techniques.
• HLA typing using Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS).
• Flow cytometry for CD34 enumeration.
• Laboratory quality systems and regulatory compliance (AABB, FACT, FDA, NMDP).
• Equipment calibration, maintenance, and temperature monitoring.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory documentation systems.
