Senior Merchandiser - Sports

About the role

The Senior Merchandiser – Sports will lead the execution and optimisation of the merchandising strategy for GMG’s Sports division in Dubai. You will own complex product assortments, drive stock productivity and ensure category performance meets financial targets.

Key responsibilities

• Translate category strategy and financial targets into seasonal merchandise plans, defining range architecture, option counts and investment by channel.
• Build pre‑season assortment frameworks and provide clear quantitative and qualitative briefs to Buying.
• Own merchandise KPIs (sales, margin, sell‑through, WOS, stock turn, markdowns) and propose corrective actions.
• Work with Planning and Category Management on open‑to‑buy usage, intake phasing and stock exit strategies.
• Lead weekly and monthly trading meetings, consolidating inputs from Merchandising, Allocation and Stores into actions such as rebuys, cancellations and promotions.
• Develop robust reporting packs synthesising data from SAP, Excel and BI tools for leadership.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business; Retail Management degree preferred.
• Minimum 6 years of merchandising experience, preferably in sports retail.
• Proven experience in inventory management and data‑driven trading.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple categories.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP preferred).
• Advanced Excel for reporting and analysis.
• Experience with Business Intelligence tools for data visualisation.
