Senior Site Reliability Engineer – Cloud & Space Infrastructure

About the role

Orbitworks, a joint venture between Marlan Space and Loft Orbital, is building reliable, shareable satellites to simplify access to space. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will own the design, deployment and scaling of the ground‑segment infrastructure that supports both test environments and live space missions.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with developers, test engineers and satellite operators to foster a strong SatDevOps culture.
• Design, roll‑out and optimise cloud solutions (primarily GCP) for testing and operations, balancing existing and new resources.
• Build and maintain scalable, secure hybrid‑cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters and SDN components.
• Automate CI/CD pipelines, IaC provisioning and deployment workflows for ground testing and in‑orbit operations.
• Own and evolve the observability stack (Grafana, Prometheus, Loki) to improve metrics, tracing and log visibility.
• Lead root‑cause analyses of reliability incidents and implement long‑term fixes.

Required profile

• Proven track record designing highly available, scalable systems in fast‑paced, high‑growth environments.
• Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs) and systems administration expertise.
• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems proactively and deliver results.
• Excellent communication skills thriving in multicultural, cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Public cloud infrastructure, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
• Kubernetes architecture, deployment and resource optimisation.
• Software Defined Networking concepts and tools.
• Observability tools: Grafana, Prometheus, Loki.
• Backend programming: Go, Python, Rust, C/C++, or Java.
• DevOps practices: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), automation.
• Networking protocols and security fundamentals.
• Systems administration and Linux expertise.
