Senior Structural Engineer

About the role

The Senior Structural Engineer improves the Structural (Eng) discipline within McDermott, acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience and sharing conceptual and practical expertise. The role solves complex problems, influences customer, operational, project and service activities, and ensures work follows the appropriate guidelines and policies.

Key responsibilities

• Perform conceptual, FEED, studies and detailed analyses and design according to design basis, project specifications, design codes and standards
• Act as Lead Engineer on small projects, controlling work hours, materials and progress, and liaising with the Design Coordinator, area leads and project management
• Mentor and train engineers, and coordinate and check the work of engineers and designers
• Prepare detailed design calculations, reports, procedures, MTOs, specifications, subcontract documents and technical bid evaluations
• Check designs for operational requirements, constructability and maintainability, and perform single-discipline and inter-discipline checks
• Perform independent computer analyses, prepare details and layouts, and carry out specialist tasks such as topsides, jackets, weight and centre of gravity reports
• Prepare project engineering guides and coordinate with other engineering disciplines, construction site/fabrication groups, safety, document control, procurement, subcontractors, vendors and customers

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering
• 8-15 years of experience in oil and gas with a major contractor or consultant, mainly in detail design
• Registered Professional Engineer or member of a professional engineering society, where applicable
• Seasoned knowledge of engineering standards and specifications, and good knowledge of engineering software
• Good working knowledge of English, oral and written; HSE, TQM and cost-conscious
• Able to work independently, flexible regarding reassignment, colleague replacement and helping colleagues with heavy workloads

Required skills

• Structural design in geotechnical, steel, concrete, dynamic calculations, FEM, fatigue, earthquake, jackets, FPSOs, blast and hydrodynamics
• Design codes such as EC, ACI/AISC/API and GOST
• Good technical structural knowledge and strong organisational and supervisory abilities
