Nextgen For Recruitment & Consulting Services
Job description
About the role
A fully remote, 100% work-from-home position for a Senior Traffic Signal Timing Optimization Specialist in the United Arab Emirates. The specialist analyzes traffic operations, optimizes signal timing plans and improves intersection performance across urban road networks, using traffic engineering principles, simulation tools, traffic data analytics and performance evaluation methods. Physical surveys, field measurements, equipment installation and on-site commissioning must be done by qualified local personnel.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate and optimize traffic signal timing plans for intersections, corridors and urban networks
- Analyze traffic volumes, turning movements, queues, delays, travel times and capacity from available datasets
- Optimize cycle lengths, phase sequences, green splits, offsets and coordination strategies
- Assess bottlenecks, congestion and inefficient coordination, and run simulations to test alternative timing strategies
- Support adaptive signal control and evaluate performance during peak, off-peak and special-event periods
- Review timing plans for pedestrians, public transport priority and emergency vehicles, and assess the impact of road changes and construction
- Interpret data from controllers, detectors, connected traffic systems and GPS travel-time services
- Establish performance indicators such as control delay, stops, queue lengths and level of service
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations and presentations, and review designs and technical submissions
- Recommend improvements to data collection, monitoring and optimization workflows, and help define technical specifications and acceptance criteria
- Maintain records of assumptions, simulation scenarios, timing parameters and model calibration
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation or Traffic Engineering; a Master's in Transportation Engineering, Traffic Systems or ITS is an advantage
- Substantial professional experience in traffic signal timing, intersection operations, traffic engineering or urban traffic management
- Demonstrated experience developing and evaluating timing plans for isolated intersections and coordinated corridors
- Experience calibrating traffic models and validating improvements against observed conditions
- Knowledge of traffic engineering standards, signal timing guidance, road safety and accessibility requirements
Required skills
- Traffic analysis and simulation tools such as Synchro, SimTraffic, PTV Vissim or Aimsun
- Analysis of traffic datasets with spreadsheets, statistical tools, GIS or programming languages such as Python
- Strong technical writing and analytical abilities, independent project management and remote collaboration
What we offer
- 100% remote work from home
- Competitive compensation based on qualifications, experience and expertise
- Opportunities to contribute to urban mobility, ITS and congestion-reduction initiatives
To apply, send an updated CV through the application process, mentioning traffic signal timing, simulation, intersection analysis and transportation engineering experience, and stating applicable employment arrangements, residency and work authorization.
