Sharia Compliance Lead - Internal Sharia Controls

About the role

As a Shari'ah Compliance Officer, you will ensure the bank's Islamic banking products, operations, and activities remain compliant with Shari'ah principles and UAE regulatory requirements. You will conduct reviews, monitor adherence to Central Bank, Higher Shari'ah Authority and Internal Shari'ah Supervision Committee guidelines, and support effective Shari'ah governance across the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct Shari'ah compliance reviews of products, transactions, processes and operations, identifying and remediating non‑compliant matters.
• Provide Shari'ah guidance to business units, review internal documents and assist in implementing regulatory and governance requirements.
• Prepare Shari'ah compliance reports for senior management, maintain review records and support the annual Shari'ah review plan.
• Engage with product, sales, operations, compliance, risk and other stakeholders to communicate requirements and resolve customer complaints.
• Monitor compliance with UAE Central Bank regulations, implement Higher Shari'ah Authority resolutions and continuously enhance the Shari'ah governance framework.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and a recognised Shari'ah certification (e.g., CSAA, CPSS, CIBAFI).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in Shari'ah compliance, audit, Islamic banking or related advisory roles.
• Strong understanding of Shari'ah principles, Islamic banking products, services and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge of Shari'ah governance standards and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, research and problem‑solving abilities, with experience in policy development and implementation.
• Effective stakeholder management and communication skills, with strong English and Arabic drafting capabilities.
