Software Engineer, Applied AI

About the role

As an Applied AI Engineer you will build AI‑powered solutions for AKASA’s Clinical Documentation and Medical Coding suite. You will collaborate with product, design, and machine‑learning teams to create the services, APIs, and tools that power our SaaS products, delivering measurable value for health‑system customers.

Key responsibilities

• Build features and products driven by large language models, covering the full stack from agentic workflow design to production infrastructure.
• Work alongside subject‑matter experts on complex problems spanning clinical diagnoses and regulated medical billing.
• Deploy evaluation frameworks and experimentation loops to deliver reliable, production‑grade systems.
• Use data‑driven and statistical approaches to balance medical coding guidelines, user feedback, and auditability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years in a technical role with a strong foundation in AI and data analysis or backend systems.
• 1+ years shipping production AI systems to end users.
• Experience designing offline/online evaluations and building agentic systems.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Thrives in a startup environment tackling challenging problems.
