Specialist Surgical Oncologist – Government Hospitals

About the role

The Specialist Surgical Oncologist provides comprehensive, evidence‑based surgical management for patients with solid tumours across government hospitals in Abu Dhabi. Working within a multidisciplinary cancer care team, the role covers assessment, operative treatment, postoperative care and coordination with other specialties.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct consultations, clinical assessments and physical examinations for patients with suspected or confirmed malignancies.
• Interpret laboratory, imaging and pathology reports to stage tumours and develop individualized surgical plans.
• Perform elective and emergency oncological surgical procedures, ensuring adherence to clinical standards.
• Provide pre‑operative assessment, informed consent, risk counselling and surgical preparation.
• Manage postoperative care, monitor for complications, oversee wound care, pain management and discharge planning.
• Participate in multidisciplinary tumour boards and coordinate care with medical, radiation, radiology, pathology and other specialists.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) from a recognised institution.
• Postgraduate qualification in General Surgery and/or Surgical Oncology recognised by UAE health authorities.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications as required.
• Relevant fellowship or subspecialty training in Surgical Oncology is preferred.

Required skills

• Oncological surgical procedures (elective and emergency).
