Staff Nurse - Oncology

About the role

American Hospital Dubai is hiring a Staff Nurse for its Oncology unit. The nurse provides direct, age-specific patient care and coordinates care-related activities, working with paediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and critical care assessments of physical and psychological needs, involving patients and families in the care plan
• Coordinate and plan care, revise care plans, initiate transfers and document in the medical record
• Manage patients receiving cytotoxic and biologic agents, manage oncology emergencies and palliative/end-of-life care
• Provide pre- and post-operative care, assist physicians with procedures such as lumbar puncture, thoracentesis and chest tube insertion, and manage kidney, bone marrow and immunosuppressed patients where applicable
• Book appointments and procedures, follow up diagnostic tests, call patients about approved labs and images, and follow up with insurance coordinators
• Maintain unit equipment, check crash carts and refrigeration temperatures, report equipment due for planned preventative maintenance, and keep consultation rooms clean
• Ensure patient education at discharge, provide basic life support, and implement infection control measures
• Take part in unit meetings, quality improvement activities, audits, facility surveys and mandatory education

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing (minimum 3 years full-time) or a nursing degree (minimum 2 years)
• Registered nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand or Australia; UAE nationals are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements
• Valid license to practice in the home country or country of last employment
• Minimum of 2 years of recent post-graduate experience in Oncology Nursing

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) is stated as essential
• Medication administration, including chemotherapy and blood product transfusion
• Venous access, including peripheral lines and central lines
• Pain management and emergency department device use
