Staff Nurse - Operating Theatre

About the role

The Operating Room Nurse provides safe, high‑quality peri‑operative care throughout the pre‑, intra‑ and post‑operative phases. Working in a fast‑paced surgical environment, the nurse ensures patient safety, maintains aseptic technique and supports the multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare patients, operating rooms, instruments and equipment before surgery.
• Perform duties as a Scrub Nurse and/or Circulating Nurse, maintaining strict aseptic technique.
• Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists by anticipating needs and handling instruments safely.
• Maintain accurate counts of instruments, needles and sponges to ensure patient safety.
• Monitor patient condition during surgery and respond to changes or emergencies.
• Ensure compliance with infection‑prevention protocols, surgical safety checklists and hospital policies.
• Support post‑operative handover, documentation and safe transfer to recovery areas.
• Participate in cleaning, disinfection and preparation of the operating theatre between cases.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an Associate degree from Canada/USA with a minimum two‑year program.
• Successful completion of the national licensing exam (NCLEX‑RN, Canadian licensing exam, or DOH license/eligibility).
• Minimum two years of clinical experience in peri‑operative nursing after qualification.
• Ability to navigate the Malaffi health information system accurately.
• Commitment to evidence‑based practice and adherence to regulatory and ethical standards.
