Substitute Teacher – Secondary Social Studies/Economics/Business Studies

About the role

GEMS American Academy in Abu Dhabi is seeking a passionate substitute/cover teacher for the Secondary Division to deliver Social Studies, Economics, and Business Studies. The appointment will begin in October/November 2026 and supports the school’s American‑IB curriculum.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry‑based lessons aligned with curriculum standards.
• Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including English language learners and gifted students.
• Foster a respectful, collaborative classroom culture that promotes student well‑being.
• Integrate technology and innovative approaches to enhance learning experiences.
• Assess student progress using authentic methods and provide timely feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues on unit planning and curriculum development.
• Participate in co‑curricular and community programmes to support holistic learning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related subject with a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, PGDE, state licence, or equivalent) in Social Studies/Economics.
• Proven experience teaching Social Studies or Economics, preferably within an American or IB curriculum (preferred but not essential).
• Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students through purposeful learning.
