Systems Engineer - Military Communications C4I

About the role

Tektora is supporting a leading defence technology client in Abu Dhabi that is expanding its C4I applications development team. The senior Systems Engineer will own the design of military communications solutions from stakeholder requirements through to a fully interoperable system, working across radio, network and security domains.

Key responsibilities

• Analysing high‑level and stakeholder requirements and deriving detailed system and component specifications.
• Developing system designs following Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and ensuring traceability of requirements.
• Producing interface designs and Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for HF/VHF/UHF radios, tactical data links and SATCOM.
• Designing communication architectures that interoperate with military platforms and configuring/testing protocols such as MIL‑STD, IP‑based and secure wireless networks.
• Integrating COTS and custom hardware/software into military networks and supporting system design reviews while managing technical risk.
• Collaborating with software, integration, simulation, QA and configuration management teams to deliver product baselines.

Required profile

• BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer, Software, Electronic, Telecommunications Engineering or Mathematics.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in communications systems engineering, preferably in tactical and strategic military communications.
• Proven experience with network architecture for military systems (tactical WAN/LAN, MANET, IP over radio, SATCOM) and hands‑on implementation of TCP/IP stack components.

• MBSE and systems‑engineering best practices (INCOSE, NASA SE Handbook).
• Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and interface design.
• HF/VHF/UHF radio, tactical data links and SATCOM.
• MIL‑STD and IP‑based communication protocols, secure wireless networking.
• COTS and custom hardware/software integration.
• TCP/IP stack, Ethernet, VLAN (802.1Q), serial (RS‑232/422/485), HTTP/S, SNMP, VoIP, SSH.
• Network monitoring and packet analysis (Wireshark, tcpdump, NetFlow).
• Linux command‑line diagnostics.
• Requirements management tools (DOORS) and MBSE modelling languages (SysML, UML).
• V‑Model development, network simulation tools and RF analysis equipment.
• Cybersecurity and information assurance for military communications.
• Military standards (MIL‑STD‑810, MIL‑STD‑461) and Radio over IP (RoIP).
