Teaching Assistant - Applied Media (Digital Media)

About the role

The Teaching Assistant for Applied Media (Digital Media) supports faculty and students in the Computer Information Science program by maintaining labs, installing equipment, and providing hands‑on instructional assistance. This position involves up to 10 hours per week of teaching duties and extensive technical support in a multicultural campus environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely lab support to faculty, staff and students, including setup of equipment for experiments.
• Maintain preventive‑maintenance schedules, manuals and logs for all lab hardware.
• Observe and enforce safety, housekeeping and inventory procedures.
• Assemble, install and configure servers, workstations, routers, switches and related systems.
• Manage the receipt, installation and ordering of lab equipment and consumables.
• Demonstrate equipment usage during laboratory sessions and assist faculty with teaching materials.
• Support students in the design, planning and execution of projects.
• Travel to other HCT campuses for meetings, workshops and community events.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
• Minimum three years of hands‑on hardware and software support experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; Arabic knowledge is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural team.
• Previous teaching‑assistant experience is preferred.

Required skills

• PC and operating‑system support, troubleshooting and implementation.
• Hardware assembly and maintenance (servers, workstations, routers, switches).
• Complex networking environment experience, preferably with Cisco equipment.
• Microsoft, Cisco or security/networking certifications (preferred).
• Ability to track and manage lab inventory and consumables.
