Welding Manager - Pipeline & Pipelay

About the role

NMDC Group is looking for a Welding Manager to lead welding engineering and installation welding teams on EPC and marine construction projects. The role covers leadership, quality control, safety compliance, resource and budget management, and coordination with offshore operations and other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Direct, train and manage welding engineering and installation welding teams, ensuring productivity and adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Ensure all welding work follows established codes, international standards and client specifications.
• Identify and implement improvements to welding techniques and equipment to optimise productivity, reduce costs and maintain quality.
• Maintain safety protocols so that welding activities follow workplace safety guidelines.
• Manage manpower, welding consumables and equipment, keeping projects on time and within budget.
• Prepare service requisitions, carry out technical evaluation and manage subcontractors for engineering and pipelay activities (manpower, equipment rental, services, ECA, etc.).
• Work with PMT and Offshore Operations to complete welding activities on time and within scope.
• Train welding installation teams and keep them qualified and up to date.
• Coordinate with PMT, procurement, subcontracts, asset integrity, quality assurance and other departments.
• Provide inputs to the Contracts department for bidding on new projects and estimate and procure pipeline welding equipment and auxiliary equipment for future pipelay projects.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Metallurgical or Civil), or equivalent.
• At least 12 years of related work experience in the pipeline industry.

Required skills

• Expertise in pipeline welding processes such as Mechanized GMAW, GTAW, SMAW and FCAW, and weld repair (GTAW, SMAW, FCAW).
• Experience with pipeline welding equipment and auxiliary equipment (internal line-up clamp, pipe facing machine, shielding gas system, etc.).
• In-depth knowledge of international welding standards and codes (API, DNV and ASME).
• Practical knowledge and interpretation of main NDT techniques used for pipeline installation (X-ray, MUT, AUT, MPI).
