2nd Officer - Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger

About the role

NMDC Dredging and Marine is looking for a 2nd Officer to serve on a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD). The officer assists the Chief Officer in the safe navigation and operation of the vessel, maintains navigational watches and supports dredging operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain navigational watches at sea and during dredging operations in line with company procedures and COLREGs.
• Monitor vessel position, traffic, weather and navigational hazards using radar, ECDIS, GPS and other bridge equipment.
• Assist in planning and executing dredging operations with the bridge team and dredging department.
• Help maintain navigational records, passage plans, charts and statutory documentation, and take part in bridge watch handovers.
• Support supervision of the deck crew, including the Bosun and Able Seafarers, and carry out deck duties, inspections and maintenance as assigned.
• Relieve the Chief Officer for breaks and other operational needs within safe manning limits.
• Assist in operating, monitoring and maintaining dredging equipment such as dredge pipes and floating pipelines, and relieve pipe operators when suitably trained and authorised.
• Take part in safety drills, toolbox talks, risk assessments and HSE procedures, and report incidents and deficiencies promptly.
• Perform other duties within the scope of competence and certification as directed by the Master or Chief Officer.

Required profile

• Certificate of Competency as Officer in Charge of Navigation Watch.
• Valid Basic and Advanced STCW training certificate.
• Medical certificate as per ILO/MLC convention.
