2nd W/K Engineer – Dredger Operations

About the role

Assist the Chief Engineer in safe, reliable and efficient operation of all engineering machinery aboard a dredger, including engine‑room watch‑keeping and monitoring of main engines, generators and auxiliary systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform engine‑room watch‑keeping, continuously monitoring main propulsion, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors and boilers.
• Maintain and operate dredging equipment such as dredge pumps, cutter drive, hydraulic systems, winches, spud and ladder machinery.
• Carry out planned maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs in line with the vessel’s Preventive Maintenance System.
• Monitor machinery parameters, identify abnormalities and take corrective action to avoid breakdowns.
• Assist with major overhauls, dry‑docking, repairs, surveys and commissioning activities.
• Maintain accurate engine‑room logs, maintenance records, checklists and defect reports.
• Supervise junior engineering crew and coordinate with the Dredge Master, Chief Engineer and deck team.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, class, flag and company HSE requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in marine or mechanical engineering.
• 5–10 years of experience, preferably onboard a dredger.

• Pumps, compressors and boiler systems.
• Dredge pumps, cutter drive and hydraulic systems.
• Winches, spud and ladder machinery.
• Preventive Maintenance System (PMS) implementation.
• Knowledge of ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, class and flag regulations.
