Assistant / Associate / Full Professor - Medical Education

About the role

The United Arab Emirates University is recruiting a faculty member for its Department of Medical Education within the College of Medicine & Health Sciences. The college runs a six-year undergraduate programme split into three two-year phases: Premedical, Preclinical and Clinical. Candidates at all levels will be considered at a rank commensurate with their academic achievements.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Department Chair of Medical Education to help faculty improve teaching and student assessment through faculty development programmes.
• Liaise with Program Directors and Course Coordinators to build an outcome-based medical education curriculum.
• Interpret the training requirements of each specialty, including the promotion and use of clinical simulation and a clinical skills centre.
• Advise the Dean, Vice Dean, Program Directors and the University on current and proposed medical education and training activities.
• Handle special projects delegated by the Vice Dean on postgraduate education and training, and advise on accreditation of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
• Develop policies and procedures for curriculum management and supervise the delivery of the curriculum, ensuring access to library, teaching laboratories, clinical skills and simulation, media and electronic resources, and IT support.
• Contribute to faculty teaching evaluation, the development of the clinical skills and simulation centre, and the integration of simulation with placement-based learning.
• Work with clinical specialists on OSCEs and prepare an annual report on Medical Education activities.

Required profile

• PhD in medical education and a Master's degree in Education or Medical Education.
• Preferred: MBBS (MD) and a PhD in medical education.
• A publication record may be taken into account for appointment at the appropriate rank.

Required skills

• Experience with problem-based and/or team-based learning.
• Research experience and knowledge of leading developments in medical education.
• Excellent organisational, interpersonal and leadership skills, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to quality teaching, learning, assessment and lifelong learning.
