Assistant Internal Shari'a Auditor (UAE National)

About the role

ADIB Group is looking for an Assistant Internal Shari'a Auditor (UAE national) based in Abu Dhabi. The role supports the Internal Shari'a Audit by assessing the continuity and conformity of Shari'a rules and principles across audit assignments, so that management can be reasonably assured that Shari'a risk is kept at an acceptable residual level.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out Shari'a audit assignments using a risk-based approach, in line with AAOIFI standards, CBUAE HSA resolutions, ADIB-ISSC resolutions and the Institute of Internal Auditors standards.
• Visit departments subject to Shari'a audit (preliminary survey) with the team leader and team members, identify areas of improvement and plan the detailed audit.
• Compile, review and summarise Higher Shari'a Authority and ISSC resolutions, and review policies and procedures.
• Help develop the Shari'a Audit Program, identify Shari'a non-compliance risks and evaluate their likelihood and impact.
• Assist in defining Shari'a controls, testing them through sampling and walk-throughs, and documenting findings, causes, recommendations and management responses.
• Assist in risk assessment for finance products, sampling methodology and preparing authority letters and audit reports.
• Form Shari'a audit teams and carry out any additional tasks assigned by the team leader or line management.

Required profile

• UAE nationality; fresh graduate or up to 2 years of experience.
• University degree in Islamic Shari'a or a relevant specialisation.
• Professional certificate in Shari'a and Islamic banking audit (e.g. AAOIFI, CIBAFI) is an option.
• Arabic and English.

Required skills

• IT skills.
• Preferred: professional auditing certification such as CIA Level 1.
