Assistant Manager - Underwriting (General Insurance)

About the role

A leading insurance organization, recruited through its client, is hiring an Assistant Manager - Underwriting (General Insurance) in Dubai. The successful candidate will lead the Non-Motor underwriting function, driving disciplined risk assessment, sound governance and portfolio profitability in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the end-to-end underwriting process for Non-Motor insurance products.
• Review and approve complex or high-value underwriting cases, ensuring sound risk selection and pricing.
• Develop, implement and maintain underwriting guidelines, policies and risk assessment frameworks.
• Monitor portfolio performance, underwriting KPIs and emerging risks, and recommend strategies to optimise profitability.
• Ensure timely issuance of policies, renewals and endorsements while maintaining service excellence.
• Collaborate with Claims, Sales, Operations, Actuarial and other stakeholders to support portfolio growth and risk management.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal governance standards and underwriting best practices.
• Lead, mentor and develop the underwriting team.
• Prepare management reports on portfolio performance, risk exposure and business opportunities.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management or a related field.
• 10-12 years of underwriting experience in General Insurance, with strong exposure to Non-Motor lines.
• Proven experience managing underwriting operations and leading high-performing teams.
• Solid understanding of insurance regulations, governance frameworks and industry best practices.
