Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Bioinformatics and Health Data Science

About the role

The College of Medicine and Health Sciences at UAE University is recruiting an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Bioinformatics and Health Data Science. The successful candidate will advance the college's academic mission through teaching, research and professional service, with a strong foundation in bioinformatics and genomics and/or health data science, including AI, big data analytics and machine learning.

Key responsibilities

• Teach courses in Python programming for life sciences, bioinformatics and data science (AI, big data, machine learning) in healthcare and public health, using practical approaches.
• Lead and collaborate on research projects in bioinformatics, omics and health data science, including metagenomic and statistical analyses of next-generation sequencing data.
• Maintain and troubleshoot analysis software and present at conferences and seminars.
• Mentor MSc, PhD and medical students in health data science and bioinformatics.
• Publish in high-impact journals and share results at conferences, workshops and media.
• Help design and improve academic programs and courses in bioinformatics, genomics, health data science and AI in health and medicine.
• Manage the Health Data Science laboratory.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or doctorate in bioinformatics, computational biology, health informatics, data science, computer science, IT or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in teaching and research in bioinformatics and health data science.
• Strong background in AI, big data analytics and machine learning for genetics and genomics.
• Proven research productivity and publications, experience supervising postgraduate students, and familiarity with course design.

Required skills

• Scientific programming, especially Python for biological research and healthcare.
• Shell scripting and UNIX/Linux systems.
• Broad knowledge of biology, especially genetics.
• Experience with large genomic datasets (next-generation sequencing, genotyping, expression data), data mining and analysis.
• Troubleshooting and maintaining bioinformatics software.
