Backend Engineer - AI & Banking

About the role

Deeplight AI is an AI and data consultancy focused on intelligent enterprise systems, with particular depth in financial services and banking. Its Technology Services group is looking for a Backend Engineer in Abu Dhabi to build scalable, AI-powered applications and Generative AI (GenAI) solutions that improve core banking processes and customer digital journeys. The role blends technical mastery of modern frameworks with a strong understanding of banking operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy full-stack, AI-powered web applications using microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Implement GenAI engineering principles, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and agentic workflows, in enterprise platforms.
• Create modular, scalable architectures and set documentation standards and reusable templates for AI projects.
• Design data pipelines, pre-processing workflows and governance frameworks for large, complex datasets.
• Manage containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines for automated, secure deployments.
• Act as an "analytics translator" between business units and IT, coordinating with UI/UX teams, Data Scientists and AI engineers.
• Communicate technical decisions clearly to high-level stakeholders and advocate for the team's vision.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• At least 5 years of professional software development.
• Proven track record of building scalable, secure web applications and integrating AI models in a cloud-native environment (Azure preferred).
• Advanced knowledge of banking operations, terminology and financial services products.
• Preferred: ability to analyse banking products, explain technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders, manage and motivate team members, and work in a fast-paced, ad-hoc environment.

Required skills

• Back-end frameworks (FastAPI, Flask or Node.js) and front-end frameworks (React.js, Angular or Vue.js)
• GenAI engineering, LLM integration (Azure OpenAI) and RAG workflows
• Azure or AWS, including serverless (Azure Functions, AWS Lambda) and storage (S3, Blobs)
• Python and JavaScript/TypeScript
• Docker, container registries (ACR) and CI/CD automation
