Barge Captain

About the role

The Barge Captain is responsible for the safe operation and management of vessels and barges in port and harbor environments. The role covers efficient cargo handling, vessel maneuvering and crew supervision, while ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and port operational standards. It is a full-time position based in Dubai.

Key responsibilities

• Safely maneuver and operate barges in port, dock and harbor areas, coordinating berthing, unberthing and tug operations and monitoring vessel systems for operational readiness.
• Oversee loading, unloading and securing of cargo, ensure proper weight distribution and stability, and keep accurate cargo movement documentation.
• Enforce port safety procedures, conduct emergency drills (fire, flooding, spills) and ensure compliance with port authority regulations and international maritime law.
• Lead and manage deckhands, dock personnel and onboard crew, assign daily duties and work with port authorities, pilots and tug operators.
• Oversee routine inspections and maintenance of vessels and equipment, maintain logs of cargo operations, movements and safety incidents, and report issues to the Port Operations Manager.

Required profile

• Valid Master / Captain license applicable to the vessel type and tonnage.
• Proven experience in ports, harbors or terminal operations.
• 5+ years of experience.
• Knowledge of maritime and port authority safety regulations.

Required skills

• Vessel maneuvering, cargo handling and stability in confined waters.
• Proficiency in navigation and communication systems used in ports.
• Leadership, communication and team coordination skills.
